Comparison of iPhone 15 Series and iPhone 14 Cases: Changes in Dimensions and Compatibility
Mac Otakara, a Japanese website, recently shared a video comparing the supposedly precise-sized 3D models of the iPhone 15 series with iPhone 14 cases. It appears that Apple has made adjustments to the dimensions of the iPhone 15 series, indicating that in most cases, iPhone 14 cases will not be compatible with the iPhone 15. Additionally, the iPhone 15 series features a USB-C port, replacing the Lightning port.
Based on the assumption of accurate 3D prints from Alibaba, Mac Otakara's testing seems to confirm that only the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 14 Plus cases are interchangeable, while the other models have undergone changes and are not compatible.
Below are the details of each model's comparison:
iPhone 15 3D Printed Model:
When the iPhone 15 model was installed on an iPhone 14 case, it appears that there have been no changes in the dimensions around the rear camera, and misalignment is not an issue. However, due to minor variations in the new phone's size, it is incompatible with the iPhone 14 case.
iPhone 15 Pro 3D Printed Model:
Installing the iPhone 15 Pro model on an iPhone 14 Pro case reveals that the 15 Pro has slimmer bezels and a slightly larger rear camera. Additionally, the shape of the volume up/down buttons has changed to a connected design, making it incompatible with the iPhone 14 Pro case.
iPhone 15 Plus 3D Model:
When the iPhone 15 Plus model is installed on an iPhone 14 Plus case, no changes in the dimensions around the rear camera are observed, and misalignment does not occur. As the casing size remains the same, it appears that the iPhone 14 Plus case can be used with the iPhone 15 Plus.
iPhone 15 Pro Max 3D Model:
Installing the iPhone 15 Pro Max model on an iPhone 14 Pro Max case reveals similar changes as the 15 Pro, with slimmer bezels and a slightly larger rear camera. Additionally, the shape of the volume up/down buttons has been modified to a connected design, making it incompatible with the iPhone 14 Pro Max case.
